Aamir isn't a perfectionist!

Yeah, he is probably the only one who is brave enough to say this, but Sharman Joshi has his reasons. Well, he’s worked with Aamir Khan in two
of his biggest films (Rang De Basanti and 3 Idiots), and we’re sure the boy knows the elusive AK better than most of us do.

According to Sharman, the term ‘perfectionist’ attached to his co-star idiot, Aamir, is like a baggage for the superstar. We asked Sharman if Aamir’s quest for perfection put a lot of pressure on his own performance, he quickly clarified, “I assume when you say ‘perfectionist’, you mean someone who can almost be annoying, and far as Aamir is concerned, it is far from the truth. Aamir loves to get his scenes right, just like all of us do. None of us likes to compromise on that front. Aamir is a very passionate and instinctive actor, and that has been my experience on the sets of Rang De Basanti and 3 Idiots. I don’t know how this baggage has been attached to him. Aamir understands the superstar he is and makes sure that his co-stars bloom into their own. I think this is an amazing quality for an actor.” Yeah, it takes one idiot to understand another, right?

Akshay-Priyanka, 2010’s hot new jodi?

Okay, Bollywood’s first big rumour of 2010 is that Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar are going to reunite on screen in Farah Khan’s Tees maar khan

Khan. The buzz is that Priyanka, riding high on the success of Kaminey, is keen on being cast opposite the Khiladi again. Akshay, you remember, was the hero who galvanized her into the big league at the start of her career with Andaaz, Aitraaz and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi before the two decided not to work together.

The buzz is that Priyanka has sent feelers to Farah for the female lead role in her film. The choreographer-director is herself said to be game for this hot-and-saleable pairing. And Akshay, who was recently asked if he had any problems working with Priyanka again, had replied, “I’d love to work with her... provided the right script comes along.”

While none of the three involved parties are willing to comment on the Akshay-Priyanka pairing in Tees Maar Khan, Farah did reluctantly say, “By mid-January we have to decide. It will either be an absolutely new girl or a very established actress... go do your math!”

Katrina Kaif is furious!

She’s been in London over the New Year and its eve. So no wonder she was furious when a daily ( Also Read: Kat flies to

New York for date with Ranbir! ) c arried a story that she’d flown to New York to ‘meet’ Ranbir Kapoor (who’s shooting there with Priyanka).

Her publicist told us that she was very much with her family and that she was livid at the story. Especially since the people concerned had called up her London number to get her side of the story; or so it seems. Well well well. Wonder how Sallu will react now? Unless Katz becomes a Veer herself instead and takes the law into her own hands. Likely? With this gal anything is, now you know why we love her so?

3 Idiots one of the best from Bollywood – Malaysian Film critic

Kuala Lumpur, Applauding the cast and crew of recently released hit film “3 Idiots”, a Malaysian film critic described director Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial venture as “one of the best from Bollywood”.

If you want to find fault with “3 Idiots”, it should be the title – for its wrong connotation. It has an intelligent storyline with acting par excellence, critic K.N. Vijiyan wrote in his review in New Straits Times.

Don’t get the wrong idea from the film title. This is not an idiotic movie and is, in fact, one of the best from Bollywood. It makes you laugh, it makes you think. In some scenes, you may even shed a tear.

Aamir Khan proves yet again why he is such a prized possession in Bollywood. The ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ always puts in a lot into his movies and that’s why “Lagaan”, “Taare Zameen Par”, “Rang De Basanti”, “Fanaa” and “Ghajini” have been praised and did well at the box-office.

Boman is impressive with his lisp, style of dressing and mannerisms, reminiscent of his similar role in “Munnabhai M.B.B.S”, but he is thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

Many scenes in the story will have the audience rolling with laughter, especially where a boy gets his words mixed up while giving a welcoming address to a VIP. There is a message about the futility of suicide, the increasing cost of living and the mindless cramming to pass exams.

The songs composed by Shantanu Moitra are a good listen and the movie has been imaginatively filmed by Muraleedharan C.K.

Kareena Kapoor doesn’t have much screen time but makes her presence felt. Her lip-lock with Aamir has been snipped.

This is a feel-good movie which will make you want to watch it a second time. In “Munnabhai”, the director propagated the “hugging” philosophy for emotional wellbeing. Here, the “mantra” is “All is well” even when something goes wrong.

Don’t miss this offering which shows all the signs of a new Bollywood box-office record.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is releasing his movie Delhi-6 all over again but with a different ending – Abhishek will die in the movie.

A source says, Abhishek and Rakeysh had many arguments on the subject. The producers felt that audiences will react adversely to Abhishek’s character dying. Although Rakeysh was unhappy with it, he shot the alternate ending.”
Rakeysh says, “I made a mistake. I should have gone with my original script with the tragic ending. Going by the reactions I got after I showed the newly edited film at the Venice Film Festival in September, I am sure this is the right version of Delhi-6.”
Well this is a more tragic and real ending for Delhi 6.

Ajay Devgn : Kajol, Nysa, my parents, cousins, sister and her family and I will all be at our Karjat farm house. We’re planning an extended holiday. I start work only from January 2, so does Kajol. So in the meantime it is going to be a huge, long party.

Amrita Rao : I wonder what 2010 has in store for me… Resolutions sound nice to the ears but adhering to them is a matter of destiny!

Amisha Patel : I have a show in Dubai. I will be working and then I will take a holiday. I always like working on New Year’s day because I feel you will then be working throughout!

Ritesh Deshmukh : Friends and I are contemplating how to ring in the New Year. It’s not compulsory to indulge in anything fancy, even a quiet time with good friends does the trick!

Arshad Warsi : I am looking forward to three releases in 2010. Will start Raju’s film next year so it’s going to be an eventful year. I haven’t a plan for New Year as yet. I’ll be with family and friends.

Irrfan Khan : On every festive occasion I try to visit my mother in Jaipur. But for the New Year I made plans to be home. Beyond the New Year I’ve made no plans. I’ve noticed every time I’ve chalked out a plan for myself, life has humbled me. I leave all my plans to God.

Mughda Godse : I am dancing at a live performance in Delhi tonight and will spend New Year with family and close friends. I’ve a horror film tentatively titled Help coming up for release. My co-star Bobby Deol is such a sweetheart. I hope to find a guy like him this year. Where are all the gentlemen?”

Sushmita Sen : I normally travel overseas. However, Alisah, my younger daughter, can’t travel abroad yet because she doesn’t have a passport. Hence it will have to be a beach resort in India.

Asin : For me it will be a quiet New Year with family. I wanted to make it for Christmas itself, however I will ring in the New Year at my family home in Kerala.

Bollywood to celebrate and welcome 2010 in Style – Part Two

Check out what our top Bollywood stars are going to do at the New Year’s eve.

Amitabh Bachchan : In the New Year, the entire family is hoping to do the kind of work that would please the audience and carry the company forward. Our New Year wishes? May 2010 bring peace and well-being. May it fill us with pride as a nation. May our glory spread further. May we progress in all walks of life. And may the year keep me alive to witness the country, the film industry and my family prosper and progress. I look forward to the coming year passing peacefully.

Katrina Kaif : I couldn’t hope for a better New Year’s day. I’m in London with my sisters and brother having the time of my life. We have lots of fun when we all are together. After I started working I have hardly seen my siblings. So meeting them is always special and a festival to mark our meeting, is the cherry on the cake. My mother forced me to leave my cell phone behind in Mumbai, so I’m almost cut off from Bollywood. What hopes for 2010? Lots of hard work and hopefully hits.

Shah Rukh Khan : I will be at home (Mannat) with Gauri, Aryan, Suhana and a couple of close friends like Karan Johar. Being with close family is the one thing I truly cherish.

Akshay Kumar : Tina, Aarav and I are in Goa. I normally take a vacation from December 29 to January 2 because it includes a double celebration. Tina’s birthday on December 29, and then the New Year’s eve party. Honestly what can be better than spending time with your loved ones? This is a commitment I have made to my family.

Deepika Padukone : I will be home in Bangalore with my parents and my sister. Then I go to Goa to wrap up the last fortnight on Ashutosh Gowarikar’s film. Every year I hope that the following year is as exciting as the previous year and I’m very happy with the way my professional life is going. Hope 2010 is the same.

Ranbir Kapoor : I start shooting for Siddharth Anand’s film in the US from January 2. Since I didn’t wish to be in an aircraft on New Year’s eve, I left India on December 27. My entire family is in Dubai as tomorrow is my paternal grandmother’s birthday and the family is treating her to a one-week holiday there. I wish I could join them!

Kareena Kapoor : Saif and I are in England. We are catching up with Saif’s Oxford batchmates and their spouses. I’m dying to wear my fur coat and sniff the English chill… looking and feeling every inch a diva. We work hard all the year around to make this happen, so let me enjoy myself.

Bipasha Basu : I’m performing tonight. Then there will be a small get-together with friends. I always like to keep my New Year’s plans uncluttered. Home is the best place to be on any special occasion. And New Year will be a non-filmy evening at home. Beyond that my only resolution for 2010 is, love yourself.

Vidya Balan : I bring in 2010 with my birthday tomorrow… no one can forget it! What hopes do I have for 2010? Oh plenty! After watching Mr Bachchan at work in Paa, I realised being focussed on your work to the point of shutting out everything else is not something I need feel guilty about. Now I’m all set to be seen as this full-blown, seductive, sexually-charged woman in Ishqiya. It brings an entirely new perspective to my personality for the audience. That’s what I’m hoping for in 2010… to find new aspects to my personality through the roles I play.

She may be one of the most sough after actresses in the industry, but believe it or not Katrina Kaif has no films on her hand after Prakash Jha's Raaj

She may be one of the most sough after actresses in the industry, but believe it or not Katrina Kaif has no films on her hand after Prakash Jha's Raajneeti.

There are rumours that Katrina is calling all the producers and directors from her contact.

List to consider her for their next projects but hasn't been able to strike any deal as yet.

Katrina with no projects and plenty of time to kill. We wonder what her beau Salman Khan is doing?

the actress gives all the credit to her ability of taking risks

Her first recognition was the femme fatal role in Abbas-Mustan's Aitraaz and since then there has been no looking back for Priyanka Chopra, who is counted among the leading ladies of Bollywood today.

And the actress gives all the credit to her ability of taking risks. "I have always taken risks and done films which challenge me.

It's easier to do films which will definitely do well," Priyanka, who has been declared the 'Endorsement queen of 2008', said.

"Even Fashion with three women, which got me my first Best Actress award, was risky. Somebody has to push the envelope.

Before Fashion when four-five of my films did not do well, the media was quick to write me off," she said.

The 27-year-old actress said she has understood herself as an actor. "I was 17 when I started.

Now, I have learnt what films are about," she said before flying off to US to shoot Anjana Anjani with Ranbir Kapoor.

The actress said the "breeziness" of her upcoming film Pyar Impossible and the relationship between the geek and the beauty written by Uday Chopra appealed to her.

"There is a geek in every one of us...low confidence, insecurities. Abhay (Uday) thinks my character Alisha is the perfect girl but she is not. It is a matter of perceptions. The characters in the film make it interesting and different," she said.

When asked about her ill-health which made news during 2009, Priyanka said, "I was working on Fashion and had two releases lined up. It was hectic. Even though my parents asked me to go slow and take a break, I am the happiest when I am on a film set. I love my energy and working. I am high on life." The actress said she did listen to her parents' advice and took a week's break. Priyanka said 2009 was an important year for her in terms of recognition.

"Fashion got me accolades and appreciation for Sweety in Kaminey was a surprise," she said. The actress said while the success of Kaminey surprised her, the debacle of 'What's your Rashee?' broke her heart.

"What was satisfying that nobody told me that I was terrible in the film. I think the length was its undoing," Priyanka, who essayed 12 roles in the Ashutosh Gowariker film, said. To a question on carrying the entire film on her shoulders, Priyanka said she believes every film is hers no matter how big a hero is paired opposite her.

Priyanka also gave a glimpse of her future projects. Speaking about her forthcoming film Anjana Anjani with Ranbir Kapoor, she said it was a love story with a 'nice twist'. While Vishal Bharadwaj's next movie will be a dark comedy and will go on floors middle of next year.

The right roles are bound to come her way. 2010 is an important year for Vidya as she starts it with 'Ishqiya' and then moves onto Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Chenab Gandhi'. On the personal front, Vidya says none of her heroes even treated her like a lady; she was treated like one of the boys.

Kajol states working with SRK is a bad habit

After Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham the trio of Shah Rukh, Kajol and will be back once again with Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan. Kajol is excited as she is back with a film after a two year gap. Her last was her home production U Me Aur Hum. But the actress says working with Shah Rukh is a bad habit. “Once you work with him you are spoilt. When a lot of people saw Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge they believed in us. It has set the standard for us. When you will watch this film too you will think of nothing but of Rizwan Khan played by Shah Rukh. The film is a humanitarian tale of love and sacrifice. It’s about triumph of human emotion.”

Kajol feels that nothing has changed in Shah Rukh, “Except for his six pack abs which he didn’t have during the making of Dilwale Dulhaniya.” But goes on to add further, “We have worked hard on this film and it has been an intense experience to go through it. I think Karan’s films completes us. I have worked with him earlier right from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Kabhi Khush Kabhi Gham and every time it is a new and exciting experience for me and Shah Rukh together.”

Salman’s alcoholism caused Veer makers Rs. 60 lakhs

Salman Khan’s alcoholism caused the makers of Veer a whopping Rs. 60 lakhs of Rupees. No it wasn’t the bill of his alcohol drinking on the sets mind you! Read on to know why it cost a bomb for them.

An unit source revealed, “During the entire making of Veer had Salman indulged in less alcohol, partied less and slept on time it would save his producers many lakhs of rupees. Believe it or not the producer of the film ended up spending around Rs. 60 lakh to only digitally improve his look. And digitally improving the look in the case of this handsome hero implies erasing the bags under his eyes and reducing the puffiness of his face, both results of his drinking binges and late nights. As if the alcoholic binges of the hero affecting the shift timing and shooting the following day and the consequent financial losses weren’t bad enough for the producer comes this huge expenditure on DI work.”

Real life couples flopping on screen continued in 2009

There’s something about real-life couples coming together on the Bollywood screen. Their films don’t seem to be working at all at the box office. This seems to have become the golden rule these days. In the year 2009, Kurbaan being the latest example of a real-life pair’s film failing at the ticket windows.

Explains a trade source, “It is probably, with so much of media boom, the audience gets more than its dose of the real-life star-couple’s antics because of which there may be no charm left for them to see the same pair on screen. But then this was not the case in the good old days when stars were very discreet about their affairs and would not go about flaunting them. Also, media was not half as intrusive then. Whatever the reason, it seems risky to cast love birds in the same film today.

More so, after Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Yuvvraaj tanked at the turnstiles. Much like Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s Fida bombed at the box-office. Their Jab We Met clicked but it was released only after the two had split.”

Mumbai, After playing Auro from “Paa” in a number of off-screen events, Amitabh Bachchan now assumes the role of media magnate Vijay Harshwardhan Mallik from his forthcoming movie “Rann” and will appear on a TV channel to do a year-end news round-up.

“And we aren’t just talking about entertainment-related activities,” said the film’s co-producer Sheetal Talwar who was present when Big B donned the garb of a news anchor holding forth on events of the year from the world on the news channel Times Now.

“And it was events from the world of global politics. Mr. Bachchan just took over the television space as though he had done news analysis all his life. It was an amazing experience,” Talwar told IANS.

On Wednesday night the megastar will reportedly be heard talking on roughly six global issues of 2009 – Indian national politics, terrorism, cricket, swine flu, recession and Obama on an hour-long segment.

This would be the first of several media-related activities that the Big B is scheduled to participate in before director Ram Gopal Varma’s “Rann” hits the screens Jan 29.

Apparently he intends to assume whatever character he plays in his forthcoming films and promote the film as the character rather than “Amitabh Bachchan”.
