Eighteen Singers To Pay Their Tribute To Mahendra Kapoor
Something that has never happened before will take place at the St. Andrew's Auditorium in Mumbai on January 7. Eighteen well known singers of all genres and generations will come together on one stage to sing and pay their tribute to the late Mahendra Kapoor who died two years ago. The 'Tujhko Pukaare Mera Pyar' event is organize by Sahyog Foundation, a socio cultural educational organization. It will coincide with the Foundation Awards for the 'Suron Ke Jadugar Awards and the 'Global Education Awards' also organized by the Foundation.
Among the singer who will perform at the show will be Pankaj Udhas, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Anu Malik, the late singer's son Ruhan Kapur, Vaishaili Sawant, Salma Aga, Jatin Pandit, Poornima, the husband and wife team of Aadesh Shrivastav and Vijayeta Pandit, Vinod Rathod, Abhijit Sawant, Deepak Kumar, Javed Ali, Peenaz Masani, the popular Sindhi singer Nari Hotchandani and Johnny Lever.
Padmashri Manoj Kumar for whom the singer sang most of his patriotic song will light the 'Sadbhabana' lamp. Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal, Deputy Chief Minister Of Maharashtra will be the Chief Guest and Mr. Ram Jethmalini, the leading legal luminary will preside over the function. A large number of other celebrities from the film industry will also be present at the event.
Mahendra Kapoor's career as a singer spanned fifty years during which he sang countless songs in Hindi films. He has the unique distinction of singing twenty five songs in all the languages of India. He was the first film personality to receive the Padmashri. He won the Filmfare Award thrice and created another distinction by winning the Gujarat State Awards and the Punjab State Awards six times in a row. His shows held in different parts of the country drew large numbers of Indian specially to listen to his patriotic songs mostly from the films of Manoj Kumar. He was also a philanthropist and performed various shows free for various charitable causes
