The Unbelievable Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher is unbelievable, says Big B. The actor who added more glory to the Kashmiri contribution to Bollywood story is an actor par excellence. Yesterday Anupam hosted a press conference in Mumbai to announce 200th performance of his highly acclaimed and much traveled play ‘Kuchh Bhi Ho Sakta Hai’ which will be staged at NCPA, Mumbai, on the 3rd of January 2010.

The play has drawn unstinted praise from Bollywood, the iconic Big B termed it as “Unbelievable,” the thespian and Big B’s inspiration Dilip Kumar said, “Very refreshing and very moving,” whereas Bollywood movie czar Yash Chopra said, “Wonderful.”

Directed by renowned theatre personality Feroz Abbas Khan, the play is a sketch of Kher’s life, depicting the journey of a man who should have been a failure; but he manipulated his destiny and forced it to make him a success.

Anupam who made his mark with Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Saaransh’ in 1984 has till now acted in almost 400 feature films and has won several national and international awards but this one act play is very close to his heart.

He shares, “All of us are in search of success and so, we are terrified of failing. Kuchh Bhi Ho Sakta Hai liberated me from the fear of failure. It also made me connect with people and taught me that failures can be stepping stones to success.”

Amazed by the fact that the play will have its 200th run very shortly director Feroz Abbas says, “At best I thought we would do about 50 shows but 200 has been a pleasant surprise...Anupam and I took a journey to redefine the theatre experience and in the process we also re-invented ourselves as Actor and Director. I have not met anyone who hasn't been blown over by Anupam's performance and been greatly inspired by this play."

For quite some time now, Anupam is seriously following his instincts apart from acting which has resulted in an acting school, ‘Actor Prepares’ to a foundation called ‘Anupam Kher Foundation’, aimed to look after the less-privileged children in education and palliative care.

It’s inspiring to see the actor following his instincts and really acting for a cause; Keep the Good work going sir
